14th Asia Pacific Conference on Transportation and the Environment (APTE) 2025, 9 to 11 August 2025, Hangzhou, China

The 14th APTE 2025 was held from 9 to 11 August 2025 in Hangzhou, China. The event was organised by the School of Vehicle and Mobility, Tsinghua University. The theme for the conference is “Emerging Transportation Solutions for Building Efficient, Sustainable, Reliable, and Inclusive Transport Systems.”
The 3-days conference was held at Hyatt Regency Hangzhou International Airport Hotel. There were 350 participants from 26 countries and regions including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Thailand.
On Day 1, the welcome addresses were delivered by Prof. Qu Xiaobo (Chair of 14th APTE Organising Committee and Changjiang Chair Professor at the School of Vehicle and Mobility of Tsinghua University), Mr. Yang Xiaoguang (Deputy Director-General of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Transport), Ms. Zhou Huijie (Director of the Free Trade Zone Administration Office, Hangzhou Airport Economic Demonstration Zone Management Committee), Prof. Wang Jianqiang (Dean of School of Vehicle and Mobility, Tsinghua University) and Prof. Fwa Tien Fang (Dean of School of Future Transportation at Chang’an University, China, Emeritus Professor at the National University of Singapore and President of Asia Pacific Society for Emerging Transport).

There were five keynote lectures presented on the first day of the conference, namely,
1. "Efficient Transport Policy Under Social and Technological Transformations" by Prof. Jonas Eliasson, Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences; Director of Transport Accessibility at the Swedish Transport Administration; Professor, Linköping University.
2. "The Ever-expanding Frontiers of Sustainable Future Mobility" by Prof. Kee Yeon Hwang, Fellow of National Academy of Engineering of Korea; President of the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI); Invited Professor in KAIST.
3. "Efficiency Gains of Autonomous Vehicles in Transportation Networks: Universal Bounds and Computational Insights on the Benefit of Vehicle Automation" by Prof. Qiang Meng, Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore; Director of the Centre for Transport Research at National University of Singapore.
4. "AI Enabling Transportation Innovation: eVTOL, Automated Shared Ride, and Next-Generation Vehicle-Infrastructure Integration" by Prof. Lei Zhang, Vice President, AliCloud; Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University's School of Vehicle and Mobility.
5. "Smart and Green Road Infrastructure for Sustainable Urban Development " by Prof. Yuhong Wang, Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
A total of 150 papers were presented at the 3-day conference which covered 7 topics:
1. Artificial Intelligence in Transportation
2. Future Mobility and Smart Cities
3. Intelligent and Connected Vehicles
4. Multi-Modal Data Fusion and Application
5. Sustainable Transportation
6. Transport Policy and Practice
7. Travel Behavior and Transportation Modeling
The PES has participated in the event with a contingent of 13 council members, namely,

Together with other Singapore delegates, there were total 22 participants from Singapore and formed the largest oversea contingent to the conference. The PES and Singapore delegates actively participated in the conference through paper presentations.



During the banquet dinner on the first day of the conference, the announcement of the next 15th APTE 2026 was presented by Prof. Inhi Kim from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea. The next conference will be held in Jeju Island from 8 to 10 July 2026.


On Day 3, the conference participants attended a technical tour to the SUPCONIT Smart City Experience Center in Hangzhou. The center provides a variety of interactive exhibits showcasing smart city technologies and solutions which include real-time traffic monitoring and infrastructure management.


The 14th APTE 2025 was successfully organized and we hope to meet again at the 15th APTE 2026 in Jeju Island, South Korea.
